A Brief Chapter In My Impossible Life by Dana Reinhardt

Simone doesn't look like her family. It doesn't matter. She knows she's adopted, but when her parents start asking if she will meet with Rivka, her birth mother, she's not at all interested. With her parent's pressure at home, her friends going through all kinds of heartbreak and a crush on a boy who seems more interested in his best friend, Simone has plenty to deal with.

Then she discovers that her birth mother is Jewish and had to give her up because her grandfather is an Orthodox Rabbi. Simone's always been an atheist, but now she's dealing with religious stuff on top of everything else. How will this year change her life?
