Make Lemonade by Virginia Euwer Wolff
LaVaughn has big plans for her life. She's going to go to college, even if no one else in her family or anyone in her building has ever done that before. College takes money and hard work, her mom says, but she can handle that. So she gets a job, babysitting two kids while their mom Jolly is at work in the afternoon. When the mom loses her job, though, LaVaughn isn't sure how to handle her job or her friendship anymore.
LaVaughn isn't sure working hard will be enough now. Can she help Jolly find a better future for her family?
