Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer

Hope Yancey has grown up in restaurants: her aunt Addie is a cook, her mom is a waitress. She loves this life. She knows it takes guts to be a great waitress and she knows she's got what it takes. But their last restaurant didn't work out and now they're moving from New York City to Mulhoney, Wisconsin. She isn't sure what to expect when she gets there.
"Maybe a personal ad would get the ball rolling: Insightful, hardworking 16-year-old girl, emotionally generous and witty, seeks friend/pal/chum to while away meaningful hours. Picky eaters need not reply."
